You’re ON! Competition 2020

We already have the winners!

We are happy to announce the winners of the first edition of the ideas contest You’re ON!, an initiative that aims to encourage innovation and discover news talents among architecture and design students.

This award claims a recognition to those students who want to develop projects that are exciting, sustainable and new innovative solutions to solve the problems of the present and the future. You’re ON! is a way to reward the students who investigate, explore, create and come up with innovative ideas and concepts.

We have invited both undergraduate and postgraduate students related to the design sector (architects, urban planners, interior designers, engineers…) from any country to present their projects individually. Any academic or personal project carried out previously was admitted, as well as projects carried out specifically for this contest.

On this first edition of You’re ON! contest we have received nearly 400 registrations, a successful participation from all around the world. The jury made a first deliberation in which 6 projects were selected as finalists. In a second session we finally got the 3 winning proposals.

The evaluation of the projects has been done following the 7 values and concepts that inspire us and have identified ON-A during our 15-year trajectory: Innovation, Emotion, Laboratory, Geometry, Coding, Architecture and Design; and Technology.

The jury
The jury for the You’re ON! contest included experts from the academic and business fields with extensive experience in the architecture sector:

– Areti Markopoulou. Academic Director at IAAC. Co-founder of StudioP52.
– Ricardo Devesa. Editorial editor-in-chief at Actar and urbanNext. Professor at ETSAB and IAAC.
– Ferran Figuerola. CEO Cricursa.
– Daniel Guzmán. CEO Verdtical.
– José Antonio Molina. Founding partner of Kubbs.
– Eduardo Gutiérrez. Founding partner of ON-A.

The winners
The winner proposal it’s a project for the renaturation and promotion of the circular economy in the city of Quito (Ecuador). The jury appreciated the contribution of a global and creative idea to achieve the sustainability of a city dense in population. The project also includes an app that citizens can install on their mobile that allows them to identify which of their personal actions are helping to improve the sustainability of their environment. It was also appreciated that this project is a viable concept and that the execution is possible.

The first prize wins a 6-month paid internship at ON-A’s office in Barcelona, ​​an iPad Pro, a registration to the Vertical Gardens course organized by Verdtical, a copy of the book “ON-A. EMOTION-ARCHITECTURE. WORKS & PROJECTS” and a set of four architecture books selected from Actar publishing house.

You’re ON! has been possible thanks to the passion for innovation and the search for talents that drives ON-A on its daily basis, but it’s also a result of a union of efforts and the sponsorship and participation of different companies such as Verdtical, Cricursa and Kubbs, which have a close and solid relationship with ON-A. We have also collaborated with Actar publishers and urbanNext content platform.

From our beginning to present day, we have been driven by our continuous aim to keep training and being up to date with the latest trends and innovations in the architectural sector. We collaborate with professionals from other disciplines on our studio, in Barcelona, ​​to promote the exchange of talent and knowledge, within and outside the sector. You’re ON! contest embraces this philosophy.
