Restructuring the Camp Clar sports complex for the celebration of the 2018 Mediterranean Games involves planning for two realities: the first during the games; and the second after the games are over when the program must be consolidated into the creation of a large sports park.

The project is a collaboration with the Design Office at the Tarragona City Council. This area, covering more than 250,000 m2 is designed to host a large number of events for the Mediterranean Games, held in Tarragona in 2018. The installations include a sports center with seating for about 5,000 spectators, a track and field stadium with a capacity for 12,000 spectators (temporary), and a water sports center.

Another essential part of the commission involved considering how the space could be used after the games and how the facilities would be maintained. To that effect, it was decided that the infrastructures that could not ensure long-term profitability would be temporary, for use only during the games.

Facilities that could be repurposed, such as the sports center, would be permanent.

After the games, the area is transformed into a large sports complex for use by Tarragona’s residents and the local sports teams, and it becomes an added green space for the city and an element of connection between the neighborhoods of Bonavista and Torreforta.
